The Stelvio National Park
The
National Park Stilfserjoch is one of the biggest and most interesting
protected areas of Europe. Located in the heart of the Central Alps the
park covers 135.000 ha. It includes the entire mountain range of Ortler
and Cevedale with its side valleys, touches the Swiss National Park
Engadin in the North and borders the regional park Adamello in
Lombardia. In 1935 this area was declared a National Park to protect
the landscape, the plant and animal life. From the glaciers of the high
mountains ( Ortler – 3905 m ) over the alpine meadows to the peatland (
Latsch – 650 m ) the National Park Stilfserjoch is an alpine region in
all its forms.
The Ortler – Cevedale mountain range rises almost up to 4000 m and
impresses with huge glaciers and vast steep drops. In the lower regions
extensive woods, alpine meadows as well as mountain farms, small
settlements and villages determine the landscape. In our guided walks
we try to bring this mountain world closer to you and let you
participate in marvellous nature spectacles. We bring you to clear
glacier lakes and sparkling brooks. On the way we show and explain you
the varied plant and animal life.

The National Park can not only be seen outdoors; there are also 3 visitors centres in Trafoi „naturatrafoi“, Prad „aquaprad“ and Martell „culturamartell“.
